Project A.C.E.S. was a huge success!
All Children Excercising Simultaneously at Hickory Bend!

May 02, 2007
Thanks to Mrs. Burras, the Hickory Bend staff and students participated in the worldwide Project A.C.E.S. event on May 2, 2007. On this day, millions of children from over 50 countries exercised in unison to promote health, fitness, nutrition and unity. The Hickory Bend School Family enjoyed twenty minutes of outdoor exercise after a few minutes of stretching.
Project A.C.E.S. is a non-competitive, symbolic gesture of fitness. A New Jersey physical education teacher, Len Saunders, started the event in 1989. At that time, he wanted one school from every state to exercise at the same time on a specific day in May, as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports month. Today, millions of children, parents, and teachers all over the world participate in this enjoyable event.
Mrs. Burras hopes that participation in this event will send a message to our students that walking is a lifelong activity. Students and their families are encouraged to commit to twenty minutes of exercise a day to promote a healthy lifestyle. Hickory Bend has participated in this event for several years, and looks forward to participating in the future.
