The school family of Hickory Bend is proud to announce the start of a new recycling program. We have teamed up with the Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Division to bring the Abitibi Paper Retriever Program to our school. This program provides us with a way to raise funds in order to elevate our level of education while helping the environment.
The Abitibi Paper Retriever bin, located in the Hickory Bend parking lot, will be available to community members 24 hours a day. All community members are encouraged to be a part of this exciting program.
Paper suitable for recycling with the Paper Retriever program includes all CLEAN and DRY:
Newspapers
Magazines
Shopping Catalogs
Office and School Papers
The bin will be emptied on a regularly scheduled basis. Hickory Bend will earn revenue from the contents of the bin after collecting the minimum amount of paper per month. Hickory Bend's goal is to have at least 2 tons of paper per month. We will need the support of the community to reach and maintain our goal each month. After the paper is collected, it will be taken to the Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling processing center where it will be sorted. Finally, it will be sent to one of Abitibi-Consolidated's de-inking facilities in the US, where it will be turned into marketable paper products such as newsprint.
Please help Hickory Bend by participating in this innovative program to recycle paper products. It is a fact: the average person in the US generates four pounds of garbage a day or 1,460 pounds per year! Local involvement can help save landfill space, clean up the environment and earn money for our school. Please join in our effort to help the environment! If you would like more information on our program, please feel free to visit the Abitibi website or contact Amy Hein.
