October 01, 2007

Many Brookwood 167 students ride a bicycle on a regular basis.  The Risk Watch coalition felt that many students are not being as safe as they should be!  Mr.Terry Campbell, Risk Watch Coordinator, found an expert and brought him to Longwood and Hickory Bend schools.  On October 1 and 2, Mr. Tom Rinnus of the Secretary of State's Office came and gave students tips on how to be safe while riding a bicycle.

Every child had the opportunity to ride through a safety course.

Students learned safety rules that included: wearing a helmet at all times, and never riding a bicycle at night.  After the rules were presented, each student was invited to ride a bicycle through a safety course.  Glenwood Fire Department sent firefighters to help the students through the course.  The safety course includes a traffic light, railroad crossing and a stop sign.  Students were actually able to put the safety tips they learned into action.

Bicycle safety is very important!  Please talk with your family about always making safe choices while riding a bicycle.  Thanks to the Glenwood Risk Watch Coalition. the Glenwood Fire Department and the Secretary of State's Office for providing this worth-while presentation to Longwood and Hickory Bend students.
