Hickory Bend was pleased to have had the opportunity of participating in University of Illinois Extension’s Mobile Science Laboratory during the week of October 29th. Perhaps you saw the large Science on the Go bus parked at our school each morning during the week. All third grades and two of our fourth grade classes experienced hands-on learning with the staff of the Mobile Science Lab.
The lab had eleven individual workstations, and students performed experiments using the scientific method. They hypothesized, observed, collected and recorded data, and made conclusions. Students were enthusiastic about their experience. The students surely gained an appreciation for scientific study, and who knows – perhaps some students will begin thinking about a career in science!
Thank you to Mrs. Jackiw, third grade teacher at Hickory Bend, for organizing this wonderful experience for the students.
