In an effort to battle the obesity epidemic in today’s schools the Chicago Bears and Staley Da Bear, the official mascot of the Bears, proudly presented “Staley’s 6 Week Fitness Challenge” at Hickory Bend on Thursday February 7, 2008. Students were recently introduced to the four elements or “downs” of this program during a recent assembly entitled “First & Goal: How To Score A Touchdown For A Healthy Life”. These “downs” are as follows:
- Eating Healthy
- Drinking Water
- Getting Proper Rest
- Staying Physically Active
All students brought home a chart to monitor his/her progress during the next six weeks. Points are assigned for each “down” on a daily basis. The goal of this program is to help encourage students to make conscious healthy decisions for themselves. Perfect scores are not needed to succeed in this program. As you will find children need only 13 points on Saturday and Sunday and 20 points during the weekdays. At the end of each week please sign your child’s weekly chart.
Upon the completion of the “6 Week Fitness Challenge” students will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible for the “Grand Prize” drawing. 10 Grand Prize Winners will be selected and receive the following:
- 2 tickets for a 2008 Chicago Bears game
- Special “On field” recognition
- Plush “Staley doll”
- $100.00
Your child may participate and complete the “6 Week Challenge” multiple times in an effort to increase his/her chances of winning the grand prize. Each completed “challenge” will earn your child an additional entry in the drawing.
The school with the highest percentage of completion (based upon total enrollment) will win a free Chicago Bears Pep assembly and be awarded a trophy to display the following year. Let's all work hard and meet our goal!
