Four eighth grade and four seventh grade students attended the Students Involved with Technology Conference (S.I.T.) at Hinsdale Central High School on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

This unique conference was for the students and by the students.  Students presented the latest in technology and software.  Our eighth graders made two presentations on Goggle Sketchup. Gerry, Caroline, Fatimah and Fred did an outstanding job as they walked onlookers through this free software application.  These students were able to draw in 3 -D  a boat, chair, helicopter and Hummer.  Their presentation excited the onlookers and many asked questions.  Their presentation was concise, interesting and informative.  They explained  how they learned to use Google Sketchup; they used online tutorials.  DEC teacher, Ms. Amanda Walsh, gave these students extra attention and guidance with their drawings and their presentations.

Our seventh graders Ciara, Demarea, James and Maggie cheered on their eighth grade friends throughout the presentation. After the fantastic Brookwood presentation our students were able to participate in other sessions. They observed a flight simulation with student pilots, composing music with Sibellus and Garageband and a Smartboard table.  They tried their hand at designing the next S.I.T. logo using a Toshiba tablet.

The keynote speakers were two alum from Hinsdale Central.  Neal Taparia and Darshan Somashekar told their tale of how they invented EasyBib.com.  These two industrious students saw a need to help ease the task of reporting bibliographic citations correctly and designed their own application to fill the need.  They are now college graduates and owners of this amazing tool which is used by thousands of students every day.

Mr. Jay Blackman our Technology Director  was instrumental in assembling this special Conference.  Mrs. Pam Bartusiewicz chaperoned. S.I.T. Conferences were also held in DeKalb and Bloomington, Illinois.
