Welcome to the Applied Career Explorations - A.C.E. Class

Class Syllabus & Grading Criteria

The A.C.E. lab consists of 15 computer modules.  The purpose of this lab is to reinforce the areas of mathematics, reading and science, as prescribed in the Illinois Learning Standards, which have been created by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Each module contains 10 assignments and each assignment has several tasks that the students are required to complete.  After completing assignment 1 through 5, students are required to take a post-test.  The post-test is graded and counts as part of the grade.  The post-test contains questions that had been previously asked within the assignments, as well as some new questions.  The post-test also asks some questions to gain an impression of what the student thought of the module, in terms of difficulty and enjoyment.  Another post-test is taken after the student completes assignments 6-10.

Once all of the module assignments and post-tests have been completed, students have the opportunity to have unsatisfactory work deleted so it can be done over again.  This may be done as many times as time permits to receive a satisfactory grade.

The academic grade for A.C.E. class is determined by averaging the scores of all the work students are required to complete.  This includes the following:

1. Daily Math Problem/Daily Journal     entry.

20% for each trimester.

2.  Module

60% for the first trimester.

40% for the second and third trimester

3.  Quarterly Exam 20% for each trimester.

4.  Previous class grade 20% - for the second and third trimester.

Behavior Consequences for A.C.E. Class

In an attempt to deter a referral being written on a student, the following steps for dealing with inappropriate student behavior in A.C.E. class will be followed.

1.  The first infraction will result in a warning  The incident will be documented.

2.  The second infraction will result in a lunch period conference .  At this time the parent will be informed and a student conference form will be filled out for documentation

3.  The third infraction will result in a student, parent/guardian conference.  During this conference the parent will be informed that the next infraction will result in a "Office Referral."

4.  An Office Referral will be written for any further infractions.
