Did you know that parents are spending more time now with their children than fifty years ago? Every child is unique. Spend some time with each child that is crafted to their interests and needs. But, time spent together is important to bond as a family. Here are 5 ideas that won’t cost you a fortune.

5) Be A Tourist In Your Own City

Brookwood

  • Look at Chicago through the eyes of a tourist
  • What would you want to visit?
  • Spring break may be the perfect time to take a day out of your busy schedule and visit the lakefront, the Adler Planetarium, or one of the other well-known or lesser well-known museums.

4) Take Me Out To The Ballpark

Brookwood

  • Celebrate your local team by visiting the minor league team that is closest to you
  • First, the tickets are affordable
  • Second, the game is only part of the entertainment
  • Bring a blanket and sit on the grass if your kids need to run around or make yourself at home in a seating area.

3) Sundae Day

Brookwood

  • Set up a sundae bar
  • Provide favorite flavors and stock up on the trimmings
  • Don’t forget the whipped cream, toppings, nuts, cherries, and sprinkles
  • Visit the dollar store to check for some fun containers.

2) Movie Night

Brookwood

  • Gather your favorite treats and get in your pajamas
  • Let your kids grab some blankets and build some forts
  • Choose a variety of movies: Some that you loved as a child and more recent classics
  • Does your family have a hard time sitting still and watching a video?
  • It may be time to break out the board games.

1) Take A Trip To A Farmer’s Market

Brookwood

  • Have your kids pick out their favorite veggies and fruit and create a meal around their decisions
  • Ask them how they made their choices and where the foods originated
  • Or, choose a theme night
  • Assign each member of the family a specific task, such as decorations, food prep and clean up!

Brookwood School District 167 relies on parent
feedback when planning for the future.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Families:

We highly encourage you to complete the 5 Essentials Survey for your child’s school. Your feedback matters. We use this feedback to develop school improvement plans and activities to make continuous improvement. The data needs to reflect the voices of our parents in order to address/validate school concerns or support for existing programs.

Your honest responses are confidential and needed to better inform our upcoming goals and strategies we will be implementing for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please share your input through the annual Illinois 5Essentials survey! The survey is administered by UCHICAGO Impact and is based on the Five Essentials for School Success, an evidence-based framework developed by the University of Chicago.

The 5Essentials Are:

⤷ Effective Leaders      ⤷ Collaborative Teachers       ⤷ Involved Families       ⤷ Supportive Environment      ⤷ Ambitious Instruction

Steps To Complete Survey:

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete;

⤷ Select the necessary language to complete the survey (English or Spanish);
⤷ Enter the name of your county and the name of your child’s school;
⤷ Advance to survey questions;
⤷ Answer all applicable questions;
⤷ Click Submit Survey

Each school needs a parent response rate of at least 20% to receive a results report. Please complete the survey no later than April 2, 2021.

Thank You For Your Participation!

Bethany A. Lindsay, Superintendent
