Take a few minutes to prepare ahead of time for those rainy days. Look through this list and collect items that you’ll use to set up these activities. Make sure that any sharp or breakable objects are well out of the way in such places as the closets. When your kids play safely, everyone (including you) has a good time.
#7 – Closet Raid
Let your kids raid your closet and hold a fashion show.
#6 – Grab A Deck Of Cards
Teach your kids a variety of card games such as Rummy, Spoons or 31. Don’t forget Solitaire. It’s important for kids to learn to entertain themselves as well! For younger kids, have them practice their numbers with the game of “War.”
#5 – Movie Day
Have your kids grab their favorite blanket, pop some popcorn, and pick a movie theme. Some suggestions are Disney favorites, Classic kid movies, or Family Favorites.
#4 – Burn Up Some Energy
Play some Wii or Xbox One games. If those aren’t readily available, play a game of Freeze Dance.
Freeze Dance Rules:
One person controls the music
Everyone dances as the music plays
When the music stops, each player must freeze immediately and not move until the music begins
If a person moves, he/she must do 10 jumping jacks (or some other activity) then rejoin the dance.
#3 – Set Up An Obstacle Course
Map out an obstacle course. Use books to balance on heads, pretend to be a kangaroo or lion, do a dance, crawl and climb at different stations. Take advantage of using both fine and gross motor skills. Encourage your kids to beat their own personal times.
#2 – “Show Your Love” Day
Break out the construction paper, colored markers, and glue. Have your kids make a card or write a letter to surprise one of their favorite people. Show them on a map where that person lives in relation to their own home.
#1 – Coloring With Recycled Crayons
Create your own crazy crayons by recycling your bits and pieces of old crayons. No kid likes to color with old crayons. Have your kids collect as many crayons as they can find. Remove the paper wrapping. Combine colors that work well together (blue & white for the sky) and others that look crazy together.
