Measles is the most serious of the common childhood diseases and it is highly infectious. The virus usually causes fever, cold symptoms, cough, sensitivity to light and a rash lasting 7-8 days.

Complications of measles can include middle ear infections, pneumonia, encephalitis, convulsions, deafness, permanent cognitive impairment and even death.

The best way to protect your student and family from measles is to receive the MMR vaccine. MMR is a routine vaccine given as a two dose series after twelve (12) months of age.

Please contact your pediatrician or family doctor for more information.
