7 Proven College Study Tips High School Students Can Master Now

#7 – Be more engaged

Brookwood

You’ve probably caught yourself daydreaming while in class. Let’s face it, everyone’s mind wanders from time to time. But, this means that you may not be absorbing essential information. A better way to tune your mind to the topic at hand is by participating in class discussions. Write good notes so you’ll have an easy reference. Ask questions if you are not sure of the information This way, you will be able to get more details which you can store in your memory for future use.

#6 – Build your study area

Brookwood

Create your very own study area. This place should be free from any distractions so that you can review your notes, complete research, or write without interruption. If your space is small or that you don’t have a room of your own, you can always go to the library.

#5 – Food for fuel

Brookwood

You can’t really study very well when your stomach is empty. Keep in mind that your brain needs energy for it to function. Of course, you need to choose good foods that such as whole foods, vegetables, and fruits which are all nutrient-dense foods. Skip the sweets and those salty snacks as they are just filled with empty calories that won’t do you any good.

#4 – Talk to your teacher

Brookwood

Some students don’t realize how much their teachers can help If you want to be better prepared for college life, it is important that you take your studies seriously. One of those ways is to not be afraid to approach their teacher. Consider them as your conduit to higher learning. There is nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to learning.

#3 – Vary your study matter

Brookwood

Most students rely on what their teachers provide them in the classroom as well as the contents of their books. If you really want to excel in your studies, vary the information that you are studying. This practice can actually help you recall information better. For example, you can study English for an hour then proceed to the next subject. Or, if you want to broaden your knowledge in a certain subject matter, explore other methods of learning. Try watching movies that are related to your subject matter and add this material to your notes (Just make sure the information is accurate.) Doing the same review methods that you’ve been doing for quite some time now can be pretty boring. By varying your study methods, you may be able to absorb more information.

#2 – Reward yourself

Brookwood

Studying for hours can actually make you lose your focus because your mind can start to wander. If you want to break the monotony of your study time, why not reward yourself from time to time? Set small goals, then allow yourself a richly deserved break for 15 minutes. Small rewards can make your study time that more enjoyable. You might be surprised to find that it is easier to concentrate by using this method.

#1 – Review the old-fashioned way

Brookwood

Students nowadays bring their laptops to school so they can take down notes by typing them, but did you know that you can retain information better if you write it down? When you type the lessons down rather than rephrasing them according to your interpretation, you are less likely to absorb information.  Another downside to using your computer or your phone for note taking is that you may find yourself getting distracted by social media.

College is less intimidating as long you develop good study habits. Keep in mind that college will be demanding more from you which is why you need to step up. The tips mentioned above can be used as a guide to your lessons because you will be hard-pressed to keep up with the fast-paced world of college life. With constant practice and training, you will be better equipped to handle the lessons you will get in college.
