Developing proper study guidance when young can help your child as they age. Study guidelines don’t have to be elaborate. However, they must be personalized to the individual.

Set Realistic Goals

Brookwood

  • Realistically gauge how much it takes to read a chapter or write a paper.
  • Help your younger child develop this habit.
  • Every child is different.
  • He may need to spend more time on one subject than another subject.
  • Teach your child to get in the habit of reviewing every night.

Start Small On Large Projects

Brookwood

  • Break down larger projects into smaller activities.
  • This method works with everything from research papers to math problems.

Homework Starts During Class Time

Brookwood

If you have a few minutes at the end of a class, use the time to ask your teacher about any questions that will reinforce what you just learned.

Variety Is The Spice Of Life

Brookwood

  • It’s crucial to have a well-stocked place to do homework.
  • But, sometimes you need a spark of originality.
  • Libraries, coffee shops, or even a move to a different room in the house, can prompt your brain to retain information better.

No Interruptions Please

Brookwood

  • Research shows that it takes about 25 minutes to return to what they were doing pre-interruption.
  • Turn off your cell phone and block social media so you can concentrate on the homework at hand.
  • Remember, the sooner you get your tasks done, the sooner you can get back to your friends or gaming.

Parent Update - Return To In-Person Learning Begins February 23, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians/Families:

The purpose of this message is to share with you the learning options that Brookwood School District 167 is offering for the remainder of the year. Beginning February 23, 2021 parents will have the option to send their child(ren) back to school for in-person learning for full-time instruction. However, parents may choose to continue the remote learning model for the remainder of the school year.

Option #1: In-Person Learning: This option provides students with full-time learning at their school. In order to provide in-person learning, Brookwood School District 167 is committed to implementing all required safety and cleaning protocols outlined by IDPH/CDC. If schools should be required to shift back to Remote Learning (due to current health metrics/increased positivity rates), students can expect to return to the remote structure they have been receiving since the start of the school year. In the event this learning option is not meeting your child’s needs, you may revert back to the Remote Learning Model by notifying your child’s Principal.

Option #2: Remote Learning: With this option, parents are choosing to have learning delivered 100% on-line/remotely. Students who are enrolled in this option should expect to engage with their teachers during normal school hours on a daily basis and receive live (synchronous) instruction for 2.5 hours per day. This matches the current format. All students who are enrolled in Option #2 will experience all subject areas and the current online tools and resources will remain in place. By selecting this option, you will not be able to change your selection and your child will remain in remote learning for the remainder of the school year.

*Please Note: For both options, devices will be provided to all Brookwood School District 167 students. Also with both options, students can rely on Brookwood School District 167 for food service, social-emotional wellness, and special education services. Furthermore, both options emphasize safety, educational quality, and parental choice. Please take time to complete the enrollment form so we understand the option that best meets your child needs. We will register your child, for the remainder of the school year, in the specified learning option you select.

Sincerely,

Bethany A. Lindsay, Superintendent

Brookwood
