7 Tips From Brookwood 167 Teachers To Prevent Summer Learning Loss

#7 –  Always Make Time For Studying

Brookwood

It is crucial that you make time to study. Fifteen minutes to half an hour should be set aside for reading to develop their reading skills further. You can bring your child to the library and them pick out a book. Sign the kids up for a summer reading program. They’ll improve their reading skills without the pressure of being in school. You may be surprised to find that your child enjoys these trips with you because in reading as they discover reading opens up a whole new world.

#6 – Vacation Planning Help

Brookwood

What better way to end the school year than going on a trip with your children? Vacations don’t need to cost a fortune. Test their math skills as you budget the money you will be spending on your vacation. Ask them to read up on possible vacation spots and improve their reading skills.

#5 – Use Postcards

Brookwood

Encourage your kids to improve their writing skills by having them send postcards. This practice also allows them to hone their critical thinking skills by sharing information.

#4 – Set Up Their Learning Space

Brookwood

Have your kids set up their own learning space. Children are more apt to be interested in doing coursework if they have their own personalized area. Let your kids choose a place at home or in the yard. Make sure that the activities that you have for your children are fun and interesting. Include them as a part of the decision-making process.

#3 – Math Facts

Brookwood

Practice math problems at home. There are plenty of math workbooks that you can buy in bookstores or even download from the internet. Make sure that you choose a math workbook that is appropriate so that they are not overwhelmed by new material. Take advantage of using math in your everyday life. Help your kids gain an understanding of fractions as they help you bake cupcakes. Point out different geometric designs as you walk through the mall.

#2 – Plan Field Trips

Brookwood

Revisit past knowledge and introduce new concepts by a day trip. Arrange a day to visit the museum, planetarium, a nearby forest or even the zoo. Encourage your child to read about the subject matter ahead of time and take the time to discuss where you visited.

#1 – Cooking Time

Brookwood

Take the time to prepare themed meals together. Let them be the ones to pick out the theme, recipe, and measure the ingredients. Have your child research a bit about the area itself or the area. You might be surprised to find that your child is already at the kitchen waiting for your next cooked meal! There is no reason children can’t have a fun-packed summer and not suffer the summer slide. With a little bit of planning and the right attitude, you may find that your children may be teaching you a thing or two.
