Many children are fearful of storms (and so are some adults.) Don’t wait until sever weather to set up your weather safety kit. There is comfort in knowing that you are prepared as much as you are able. In fact, make a game of helping your children get “their” kit ready. Give them a bag or extra backpack to fill with water, some nutritious treats, their own flashlight, a teddy, a deck of cards, and perhaps a blanket to set up a “fort.”
For your kit, gather:
- Battery operated or hand-crank radio
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- House and car keys
- Cell phone, battery, charger
- First aid kit
- Pet, baby, and medical supplies including prescriptions
- Extra water (enough for 3 days)
- Food and nutritious treats that do not need refrigeration or heating
