April showers may bring May flowers, but they also bring along spring storms. Are you ready to take on the weather this year? Be smart! Stay safe!

Tornado Watch

Brookwood

  • Conditions are right for one to occur
  • Be prepared to seek shelter when issued
  • Stay tuned for weather updates

Remember To D.U.C.K.

Brookwood

D.U.C.K.

  • Get [DOWN] to the lowest level
  • Get [UNDER] something sturdy
  • [COVER] your head
  • [KEEP] in shelter until the storm has passed

In School

Brookwood

  • Follow your teacher’s instructions
  • Avoid the gym or auditorium with large roofs that can collapse
  • Go to an inner wall on the lowest floor

At Home

Brookwood

Sit down as a family and develop a storm strategy. Make sure your children know exactly where to go in a storm.

  • Find a windowless area: basement, bathroom, or hallway
  • Avoid windows, doors, and exterior walls

In mobile homes or outside:

  • Determine the nearest shelter
  • Make sure your children know where to go to
  • Never seek protection under an underpass
  • These offer no protection from the wind or debris

Set Up A Weather Safety Kit

Brookwood

Many children are fearful of storms (and so are some adults.) Don’t wait until sever weather to set up your weather safety kit. There is comfort in knowing that you are prepared as much as you are able. In fact, make a game of helping your children get “their” kit ready. Give them a bag or extra backpack to fill with water, some nutritious treats, their own flashlight, a teddy, a deck of cards, and perhaps a blanket to set up a “fort.”

For your kit, gather:

  • Battery operated or hand-crank radio
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • House and car keys
  • Cell phone, battery, charger
  • First aid kit
  • Pet, baby, and medical supplies including prescriptions
  • Extra water (enough for 3 days)
  • Food and nutritious treats that do not need refrigeration or heating
  • Can opener
  • Cash

Brookwood School District 167 relies on parent
feedback when planning for the future.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Families:

We highly encourage you to complete the 5 Essentials Survey for your child’s school. Your feedback matters. We use this feedback to develop school improvement plans and activities to make continuous improvement. The data needs to reflect the voices of our parents in order to address/validate school concerns or support for existing programs.

Your honest responses are confidential and needed to better inform our upcoming goals and strategies we will be implementing for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please share your input through the annual Illinois 5Essentials survey! The survey is administered by UCHICAGO Impact and is based on the Five Essentials for School Success, an evidence-based framework developed by the University of Chicago.

The 5Essentials Are:

⤷ Effective Leaders      ⤷ Collaborative Teachers       ⤷ Involved Families       ⤷ Supportive Environment      ⤷ Ambitious Instruction

Steps To Complete Survey:

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete;

⤷ Select the necessary language to complete the survey (English or Spanish);
⤷ Enter the name of your county and the name of your child’s school;
⤷ Advance to survey questions;
⤷ Answer all applicable questions;
⤷ Click Submit Survey

Each school needs a parent response rate of at least 20% to receive a results report. Please complete the survey no later than April 2, 2021.

Thank You For Your Participation!

Bethany A. Lindsay, Superintendent
