Taking tests can be both stressful for your child and yourself. There is an art to test taking. It starts when new material is presented. Proper preparation can help make taking tests a breeze.

Finished Early?

Brookwood

  • Don’t hand your test in if you finish early
  • Spend extra time checking your work
  • Now is the time to reread any questions that confused you earlier or add details to your answers.

Take It Easy!

Brookwood

  • If you find yourself panicking, take a deep breath and relax
  • Take a couple of deep breaths, move your toes and feet or picture yourself in your favorite place.

Focus On Each Question!

Brookwood

  • Don’t obsess if you do not know the answer to a question
  • Either come back to it or answer it the best way you can
  • When you’re done with the other questions, come back and reread it.

Read The Test First!

Brookwood

  • Don’t rush to start answering questions
  • First, read through the entire test
  • Get a feel for the test: how long it is, what type of questions you have to answer
  • If something is unclear, don’t panic
  • Don’t hesitate to ask the teacher anything that may seem unclear.

Listen First, Then Write!

Brookwood

  • Teachers often have last minute instructions as they had out the tests
  • Make sure you listen carefully to what they are saying.

Get Enough Sleep The Night Before The Test!

Brookwood

  • Studies show that students who got enough sleep the night before a test fared better than those who pulled an “all-nighter”
  • Memory recall is much better if you had sufficient rest.

Make Sure You Have Studied!

Brookwood

  • This is a no-brainer, right?
  • How do you learn best?
  • Everyone has a personalized learning style
  • Make an effort to learn material on a daily basis and review proper study techniques.

Brookwood School District 167 relies on parent
feedback when planning for the future.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Families:

We highly encourage you to complete the 5 Essentials Survey for your child’s school. Your feedback matters. We use this feedback to develop school improvement plans and activities to make continuous improvement. The data needs to reflect the voices of our parents in order to address/validate school concerns or support for existing programs.

Your honest responses are confidential and needed to better inform our upcoming goals and strategies we will be implementing for the 2021-2022 school year.

Please share your input through the annual Illinois 5Essentials survey! The survey is administered by UCHICAGO Impact and is based on the Five Essentials for School Success, an evidence-based framework developed by the University of Chicago.

The 5Essentials Are:

⤷ Effective Leaders      ⤷ Collaborative Teachers       ⤷ Involved Families       ⤷ Supportive Environment      ⤷ Ambitious Instruction

Steps To Complete Survey:

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete;

⤷ Select the necessary language to complete the survey (English or Spanish);
⤷ Enter the name of your county and the name of your child’s school;
⤷ Advance to survey questions;
⤷ Answer all applicable questions;
⤷ Click Submit Survey

Each school needs a parent response rate of at least 20% to receive a results report. Please complete the survey no later than April 2, 2021.

Thank You For Your Participation!

Bethany A. Lindsay, Superintendent

Brookwood
